ADI Team Congress 2019

Over 1000 dental professionals gathered in Edinburgh from 2-4 May 2019 for the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) Team Congress at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. We spoke to the ADI to find out more about the Congress and what attracted them to Edinburgh.

Our delegate numbers increased substantially from 2017, and we believe we can attribute a good deal of that success to the location.

What were the key requirements when you were in the process of selecting a host destination?

We needed a purpose built conference venue to hold up to 2000 delegates, including additional rooms for 8 parallel programmes, space for our trade exhibition and a nearby hotel for speakers and moderators. For our social events we also required a prestigious venue for an intimate dinner with 100 guests and another venue for a black-tie dinner for up to 500 guests for which Edinburgh ticked all the boxes.

What influenced the event to come to Edinburgh?

Our current President is based in Scotland and having been to Edinburgh previously in 2005, we were familiar with the city's draw for delegates and speakers. We knew a lot of them would extend their stay to make holidays out of the event and explore the city further. With this in mind, it was all the more reason to hold our Congress in Edinburgh.

What were the objectives of the conference?

To bring delegates from around the country to hear from world-renowned speakers lecturing on current hot topics and looking to the future to discover what’s next in the world of implant dentistry, alongside the industry showcasing the latest technologies.

In your opinion, what were the main highlights of the conference?

There were many highlights of the Congress over the 3 days. Our speakers were fantastic and gave entertaining and educational talks. The exhibition and the Congress programmes all had such a fantastic buzz. The speakers’ dinner at Edinburgh Castle was a real treat for our speakers to experience one of Scotland's top visitor attractions out of hours. Another highlight was our black tie dinner at the National Museum of Scotland featuring fantastic entertainment, food and drinks that went on into the evening. Our delegates gave us amazing feedback both on the Congress and their experience in Edinburgh as a whole.

Great event, meeting like-minded colleagues and sharing ideas. Good update at trade show. Fantastic social events and excellent evidence based lectures.

What support did you receive from Convention Edinburgh/the city during the organisation of the event?

We greatly appreciated the sponsorship contribution from Convention Edinburgh, in addition the team at Convention Edinburgh also helped us source images and footage of Edinburgh we could use throughout the event, and provided city guides that we could include in our delegate bags. We also found the website text very useful when writing about what delegates should expect from their trip to Edinburgh. Thank you so much Convention Edinburgh for all your support!
