Fingal: Your Ship Awaits

Published: 23 August 2018

Launching in January 2019, the newest addition to Edinburgh’s flourishing hotel scene comes in the form of a 1963 Northern Lighthouse Board ship. The floating hotel, aptly known as Scotland’s first ‘Boatique’ hotel, is a £5million development and a unique addition to Scotland’s hotel sector.

Fingal is situated in Leith at Edinburgh’s fashionable waterfront, just a stone throw away from the renowned Royal Yacht Britannia. A 237ft long ship, Fingal launched just one decade after Britannia with the purpose of helping to maintain Scotland’s lighthouses.

17 years after retiring, Fingal is currently undergoing a £5million development. The ship is being transformed to include an awe-inspiring ballroom and 23 beautifully styled cabins; both of which are guaranteed to wow guests. The spectacular double height room ballroom seats 80 guests and features a large moveable skylight big enough to lower a car through!

Head of Hospitality & Events at The Royal Yacht Britannia, Andrew Thomson, said: “Fingal is like no other in Scotland. It is a privilege to take this historic ship and create a new, exciting and world-class addition to the Scottish tourism landscape. The craftsmanship and design, inspired by Fingal’s provenance and heritage, coupled with the best of Scotland’s larder will ensure our guests’ experience on Fingal is truly memorable.”

Fingal’s unique nature, coupled with a crew delivering ‘best in class’ customer service, promises to create memories guests will treasure forever.
