The first edition of the European University Debating Championships took place in Rotterdam, in 1999. Back then, debating was a very different activity and just 32 teams participated. Scottish EUDC 2018, over seven times larger, will be the twentieth edition of Euros, and with a team cap of 240 (or more!), will be the definitive tournament to crown Europe's top debaters.
The tournament takes place over six days, and nine rounds of debating in the British Parliamentary (Worlds) format. The topics to be debated can range from politics, economics, international relations, philosophy, education and more – teams are given just fifteen minutes to prepare and must do so without any online assistance.
