What's New in the City?

Published: 23 August 2018

Scotland’s capital city is thriving, with Edinburgh widely perceived as an attractive destination for investors. The city has welcomed a whole host of new developments recently, from new direct flights from China to a luxury 5* hotel; you name it, Edinburgh has it!

Direct China Flight

China Flight

Scotland has become connected with China for the first time as a result of a direct flight between Beijing and Edinburgh. Launched in June 2018, Hainan Airlines now runs direct return flights between Edinburgh and Beijing twice weekly. In recent years, numerous hotels, venues and visitor attractions across the city have come together to learn how best to meet the needs of Chinese visitors. This, combined with the recent direct flight launch, ensures Edinburgh is very well positioned to welcome more and more Chinese groups.

The Grand Café at The Scotsman is set within The Scotsman’s former advertising hall, one of the most magnificent Old Town venues. The café, which opened in June, seats 150 covers across its spectacular ground floor and balcony, which is filled with light, character and period features dating back to 1905.

The Grand Café brings the buzz of a vibrant modern café bar during the day before transforming into the perfect late night dining spot, with live piano music played on the balcony by an in-house pianist taking requests into the small hours.

The Bonham Redevelopment

Junior Suite

The Bonham, situated in an elegant Victorian terrace in the West End of Edinburgh, is a 19th century town house hotel with an illustrious past. Set over three townhouses, the building was originally individual residences in the late 1800’s. By 1939, the three houses collectively became a medical clinic, before student accommodation in 1951.

A hotel since 1998, it has recently undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment. The 4* hotel boasts 49 bedrooms, each featuring high ceilings, period details and floor to ceiling windows, as well as meeting rooms.

“The Bonham has claimed the hearts of so many of our guests who return time and time again and this multi-million-pound refurbishment has seen our already stunning hotel transformed into a truly sophisticated property.” – Douglas Campbell, General Manager at the Bonham Hotel.
