‘Three Cheers for 30 Years of the Scotch Whisky Experience’
In May, the Scotch Whisky Experience celebrated a very noteworthy milestone as they turned the big 30. Since opening its doors in 1988, the city’s finest whisky attraction has welcomed 6.8 million whisky fans, who have sampled a whopping 8 million drams! To commemorate in true style, a 30-year old Scotch was released to mark the occasion. Congratulations to the whole team at Scotch Whisky Experience from everyone at Marketing Edinburgh, we look forward to seeing what the next 30 years bring.
‘Award Success for the Scottish Café & Restaurant’
The Scottish Café & Restaurant at the Scottish National Gallery was awarded the top ‘Sustainable Business Award’ at the Catering in Scotland (CIS) Excellence Awards 2018 at the end of May. The awards were launched in 2004 to recognise, reward and celebrate the exceptionally high degree of creativity, innovation and excellence in the Scottish hospitality, catering and tourism sectors. The Scottish Café & Restaurant was also commended for its strong commitment to sourcing Scottish, local, sustainably produced food and drink, as well as a proactive waste-reduction strategy and training initiatives that encourage and incentivise employees to consider implementing sustainability options and best practice. A very well deserved recognition – huge well done from the Marketing Edinburgh Team!
‘Showcasing Excellence in Scottish Events and Festivals’
Two of the city’s venues were winners of the EventIt E Awards 2018 in March; Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) and Dynamic Earth. Celebrating the best, the most innovative and successful of Scotland’s dynamic events and festivals, the E Awards offer those working within the Scottish events industry an opportunity to demonstrate their professionalism, diversity and creativity. Congratulations to EICC for winning the most ‘Sustainable Event’ award and to Dynamic Earth for winning ‘Scottish Event Space or Venue Excellence’ award.
The Principal George Street Hosts Foodie Award of the Year
Edinburgh’s amazing foodie scene was recently celebrated at The Edinburgh Restaurant Awards, held by our very own Principal George Street. The event saw 14 of the city’s restaurants win awards, with Marketing Edinburgh sponsoring the ‘Best Café/Deli’, which was won by Boardwalk Beach Club.
Joanna Ablett, Business Development Manager at Marketing Edinburgh, said:
The Principal Hotel George Street provided a fantastic setting for the event with excellent food served throughout the evening. We were very proud to be a sponsor, honouring the hard working and outstanding people who work within the industry. Edinburgh boasts such a high calibre and variety of restaurants, no wonder we’re named as one of the best places to live in the UK!
Although none of our members were winners this year, we’d like to congratulate Dishoom for its nomination for the ‘Best Breakfast’ award and huge congratulations to Principal George Street for pulling out all the stops and hosting such a wonderful event.
EICC is on a winning streak!
Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) won a bronze award for ‘Best Conference Venue (over 1300 theatre)’ at the recent Conference Awards. The Conference Awards, held in London on 29 June, is largest gathering of conference professionals in the UK and recognises, celebrates and encourages achievement in conference & events. This award closely follows the EICC's recent wins at the National Venue Awards in May when they received Gold for 'Best Event Venue (over 1,000 delegates)' and Silver for 'Most Versatile Venue'.
