As the City Convention Bureau, Convention Edinburgh collate information for the annual worldwide ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) Rankings. The rankings determine the world’s leading business event destinations based on the number of international meetings held in the city that year. Therefore, in order to maintain Edinburgh’s status as a leading destination, we require input from everyone who has brought an International Association event to Edinburgh - to qualify it must have 50+ delegates and been previously held in two other countries.
Announced in May 2019, Edinburgh climbed from 32nd in 2017 to 27th, reporting a total of 85 international meetings with 50+ delegates which maintained our second place in the UK only to London, up from 70 in 2017.
This impressive result is down to the hard work and effort of the whole city. Special thanks goes to the venues which submitted event numbers to ensure Edinburgh remains the leading Scottish destination for business events.
Amanda Ferguson, Head of Business Tourism at Marketing Edinburgh, commented:
“Convention Edinburgh reports on meetings which we support, however, many international conferences and meetings take place in the city without our knowledge. Academics often book and organise qualifying events without our knowledge – they don’t always need our support. By sharing this information with us, you are helping re-enforce Edinburgh’s position as a leading conference destination which helps attract future conferences.”
Work has already commenced on collating stats for 2019. If you have an international meeting, symposium, seminar or conference with 50+ delegates that has been previously held in other countries, please contact Alex Moore, Research Executive at Marketing Edinburgh.
