Edinburgh Airport Expands its Services

Published: 12 June 2019

Edinburgh Airport is an increasingly important economic asset for not just the city but the country as a whole as it continues to grow.

Where Scotland meets the world, Edinburgh Airport is Scotland’s busiest and UK’s 6th busiest airport with over 14 million passengers passing through per year. Investment into development continues as the airport undergoes an injection of £125 million over five years to include additional retail amenities inside the terminal and departure lounge, along with improved check-in and immigration facilities. Airline services have also increased and Edinburgh now caters for 37 different airlines flying to 157 destinations across the world. See some notable new routes below:

Philadelphia-Edinburgh

American Airlines will operate a service to and from Philadelphia during 2 April to 26 October, extending the airport’s reach into North America alongside flights to New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Boston and Toronto.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said:

“We’re delighted to add Philadelphia to our options and offer yet another new destination in North America to our passengers.

Both Edinburgh and Philadelphia are steeped in history and culture and this link will open up our cities to new markets on both sides of the Atlantic. We know there is a continued and growing appetite for transatlantic routes as our recent figures show these services are fuller this year when compared to last so adding another destination is an exciting development.

It’s also encouraging to see our already close relationship with American Airlines continue as they identify Edinburgh as an important city for their wider network, and we see them as a key partner in our plans.”

Boston-Edinburgh

The daily flight Edinburgh and Boston Logan International Airport will operate throughout the summer and is Delta Airline’s second route from Edinburgh Airport. It complements the existing New York JFK service and means Delta Airlines with joint venture partner Virgin Atlantic will offers two nonstop connections between the capital and United States every day this summer.

As of October 27th 2019, Austrian airline Laudamotion will offer a 3x weekly service between Edinburgh and Vienna.

The flight will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, allowing passengers a chance to discover the Scottish capital city in wintertime.

Gordon Dewar, CEO of Edinburgh Airport, said:

“We’re bringing yet more choice to our passengers and offering them a variety of ways to get to Vienna, which is one of the world’s most stunning cities, offering everything from skiing holidays, romantic weekends and historical sightseeing. We’re also delighted to welcome Laudamotion as our latest airline partner and look forward to working with them to make this new service a success.”
