Travel

Edinburgh is one of the UK's best-connected cities, with a sophisticated transport and communications network linking it to the rest of Europe and the UK by air, road, rail and sea making getting here easy for your delegates.

Edinburgh is home to Scotland's busiest airport, Britain's largest train station outside London and the largest freight port area in Scotland, which means your delegates have many options arriving at destination Edinburgh!

By Air

For international and national conferences, a large number of your delegates could be arriving by air. Edinburgh Airport is an award-winning airport and Scotland’s busiest, serving 120 worldwide destinations with an average of 50 daily flights from London. There are frequent direct flights from main international hubs including Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris, Geneva and Frankfurt, and direct long-haul services to the USA, Canada and the Middle East.

The journey from the airport to the city centre is only 8 miles (12km) with frequent connecting services by Airlink bus, tram or taxi and a journey time of approximately 30 minutes. If you prefer a ‘meet & greet’ service, we can provide you with details of our travel services members.

By Rail

For delegates travelling to Edinburgh by rail, there are two city centre train stations, Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Haymarket, which are linked to all major cities and airports in Britain, with a high-speed link from London in just over four hours.

Both stations have recently undergone extensive refurbishment to improve access and Edinburgh Haymarket, Scotland’s fourth busiest station, has been vastly expanded creating a modern, transport interchange facility while maintaining the original A-listed station building.

Local Travel

Once your delegates arrive in the city, again there are several options with Council licensed taxi operators, an award-winning public bus service operating a frequent timetable and our latest addition - Edinburgh’s modern new tram system which launched in May 2014 and provides a smooth, fast, high capacity service and has made a positive contribution to the city’s natural environment with zero on-street carbon emissions.

Reduced Fares

Convention Edinburgh has negotiated reduced fares with Lothian Buses for your delegates travelling on the Airlink bus service between Edinburgh Airport and the City Centre and also on the city sightseeing bus tours, which feature many highlights within the city and provide an excellent opportunity for delegates to discover Edinburgh.
