CFA Institute: Edinburgh Corn Exchange May 2011

Destination management company True North Events worked with the client, the Corn Exchange and caterers Prestige Scotland, to create an Edinburgh Pub Walk theme, with different parts of the building designed to look like distinctive Edinburgh pubs.

The biggest space, the Exchange, was transformed into Edinburgh’s famous Grassmarket, with a farmers market allowing delegates to sample a wide range of foods with a strong emphasis on Scottish produce, such as Hebridean and Arran cheeses, herring, mackerel, a range of Scottish soups, and Grampian chicken and Ayrshire bacon.

In one space, a Highlander’s Sports bar was created with Wii, Xbox Connect and table football, another became a Scottish music bar with live traditional entertainment and real ales and whiskies, while a third was a bistro with a hog roast and barbecue.

Street entertainers and musicians wandered throughout the Corn Exchange, creating a relaxing interactive atmosphere and two other whisky bars were also created.

Amanda Wrathall, sales director at the Corn Exchange, said: “The concept was an ideal opportunity to showcase how flexible the Corn Exchange can be for hosting a variety of corporate activities under one roof.”

Jennifer Woods of CFA Institute said: “The Corn Exchange is a great venue – multiple, diverse spaces throughout the venue which all interconnect. The staff at the Corn Exchange were fabulous to work with, and many of our delegates said this was the best event CFA Institute has ever hosted.”
