Edinburgh has been selected as the destination to host the annual meeting of the European Surgical Association (ESA) in Spring 2012. The European Surgical Association is one of Europe’s leading surgical organisations. Professor James Garden, Regius Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Edinburgh, led the bid to host the 2012 annual meeting. Local professional conference organisers Congrex UK supported the bid.

“The UK last hosted this prestigious meeting in London, 1999, but it has never previously been held in Scotland” said Professor Garden.  “I very much look forward to welcoming my colleagues from across Europe and further afield to Edinburgh in 2012. It provides us the opportunity to showcase the academic surgical research and practices being delivered in Edinburgh and also give attendees the opportunity to experience the heritage and wealth of activities that this wonderful city has to offer”.

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is the selected venue. Congrex UK will support Professor Garden and the ESA secretariat with the planning of the 2012 meeting.
